New Furance Pricing Feedback Needed
We are in the process of getting an old gas furnace replaced in my father-in-laws cottage. We found a furnace guy in the neighborhood that offered to put in a 72,000 BTU Tappan Furnace thats 80% efficient for $1550. The cottage is about 1100 sq feet and has a 110,000 BTU Lennox in it now. Does this price sound good or should I start shopping? This person comes very highly recommended from several folks in the neighborhood and works for a heating and cooling contractor near by. He does the work on the side for extra cash.
Thanks for your input...

I would not let a side jobber do a furnace no matter what his "reputation".
For one thing is the guy licensed? If you need service you will have to wait for
the guy to finish work before he get's to you.
I bet he is uninsured. How about getting a permit?
Lastly he is stealing from his employer.

Is he doing a load calc to see what size you really need.
As above.
Does he have insurance.
Is he pulling a permit.
Is he bringing up to coed anything that may not meet new codes.
Does he care if it meets code.
Can he take off work and fix it, if it has a problem at 7:00 in the morning, or do you wait until after 5 PM when he gets done working.
Even when it 10°F outside, and your pipes might freeze.
Can your father in law stay in your house until its fixed.
