new construction- zoned system

I got a quote for a HVAC system on a 1560 sq. ft house, I asked for a price for a zoned system (electric) and hvac sub said he didn't like zoned systems and recommened two units saying it's not that much more expensive. What are the negatives on a zoned? (I forgot to ask and looking for unbiased opinion)

I wouldn't call it a negative. but, a zone system is frequently used for an undersized furnace, and the homeowners don't want to buy new equipment and the extra ductwork. A Potential drawback is that when only one zone is calling for heat/cool, it's theoretically oversized. There are ways to overcome this. And zoning isn't awful. As zone systems have benefits as well. But, in my opinion, if I had the extra money, I would go with seperate units.

A good zoning system with 2 stage equipment can often provide better comfort then 2 systems.
2 systems however gives you redundancy, if 1 breaks down. You have the other one to hold you over for the night.

If done right. There isn't any real draw back with a zoned system.

Seems like the house is small enough that a well designed duct system would require neither zoning or two units. Perhaps he doesn't have confidence in his ability to design ductwork or is their some feature of your house that requires two units or zoning?
