new condenser

I just found out that my condenser coil is leaking due to corrosion and needs to be replaced. it is an R-22 unit so in short supply. The HVAC guy told me I'd need to replace the whole system and it would be several thousand.

I got curious so I tried searching for R-22 units online and found a few. Some are not the same brand and have different SEER ratings. I'm wondering if I can get one of these and get it installed.

Condenser & coil have to match.

when you say coil, I assume you mean evaporator coil must match the condenser coil?

When you say "match" do you mean the brand must match or the SEER rating must match?
(or both)

Brand doesn't matter. Of course I like to use a match system. You shouldn't install a 13 seer condenser on an evap coil that was set for 10 seer condenser

Brand matters, when your matching for SEER.

A Goodman 13 SEER condenser on a 13 SEER Carrier coil, won't be 13 SEER in many cases.

Thanks for clearing that up ben. I didn't mean to imply for him to install mis matched brands. as you described
