Need some friendly advice-- Coleman/York v. Trane - DIY Chatroom

Hi. I'm replacing my split system furnace (gas) and AC. Live in a split level home (in NJ) and suffer from lack of heat and AC "upstairs" and too much hot/cold downstairs (seems to be common problem in splits). I've narrowed it down to the following systems: Trane XC-95 (80K BTUs) & XL-16i (3 ton) v. Coleman/York Echelon/Affinity 9.M/9.C & 8T/8T.

The Coleman/York units will run me about $4,200 less (quotes are about $2,500 less and then Coleman/York has a $1,700 rebate). Assuming the Trane products are even better to begin with (and I'm not sure if that's accurate--I've read some good things about the Coleman/York units I'm interested in--I also called Johnson Controls tech support and they insisted that the Coleman and York are same quality), is Trane actually "worth" that much more?

In addition, the Coleman/York furnace is a "modulating" furnace which, is that better than a variable speed staged unit (like the Trane) for a split level home (i.e., will it keep steady heat at low level so I'll have heat longer & also be more efficient).

Any thoughts? Any expert guidance would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

Double check, that the York/Coleman dealers are including the require IAQ upgrades and thermostat needed to get the 1700 dollar rebate.

With a York/Coleman mod, you'll havde a more even heat then with the Trane.

York/Luxaire/Coleman, they all are mad ein the same factory, on the same assembly lines.
