Need Relay-Essex 129115-7180Z
I'm in need of a relay / contactor for my AC unit. It's an Essex 129115-7180Z
The stamp on the body reads:
AC Only 250V 18A
1HP - 125V 2HP 250V
Coil 24V
50/60Hz
An online search shows zip....it's an older unit.
I'm in Michigan

measure the coil current at a voltage close to 24 vac and divide the voltage by the current. Or measure its resistance.
How many terminals does it have? SPST, probably 4; DPST, 6
Then you'll have enough data to find a relay that equals or exceeds these specs. The replacement relay coil impedance should be equal to or higher than the value for your orig. relay.

Good Question. I've heard it called both. I'm a bookbinder by trade. But I do know it's part number 129115-7180Z made by Essex.

What is it in. An air handler, a furnace, or a condenser?
Contactors and relay replacements only need to meet the specs of the original one. Doesn't have to be the exact.
But, on some replacements, the position of the terminals changes, and can make using them a trying experience, since sometimes the wires are too short to reach the new terminal position.
Graingers, carries most any relay or contactor replacement someone would need.

I checked all three of those sites. None have an exact replacement. I'd look for a non OEM but the space this part goes into is limited.

You can lengthen the wires and put the relay almost anywhere inside the weatherproof enclosure. Probably #14 stranded will do it. I'd solder the splices and use heat shrink tubing to insulate.
The wire insulation chosen should probably be good to 600 vac and to at least 90C, and weather resistant. Maybe there are markings on the existing wire that will show the presently used gauge, insulation working voltage and temp. rating.

The Schematic under the cover calls this part a "fan relay" soooo relay it is....not a contactor.

Thanks for all the help and links. I found an OEM replacement on E-Bay for $26 bucks. I hope this solves the problem of the fan not kicking on unlessl I hit the relay with a screwdriver.

I got the point, maybe the key is the replacement relay coil impedance should be equal
