Need Input For Venting a Unit Heater

We live within a few miles of Lake Michigan (it's to the west of us), and I'm in the middle of installing a unit heater in a north-west corner. We're going to vent horizontally. Would you suggest venting it on the west side, facing the lake (with the top cap of the vent taking the brunt of the wind.) Or would you suggest to the north, with the side of the vent receiving the brunt of the wind? Or does it matter at all?

Secondly, it's a 115,000BTU Modine heater. I read somewhere that some unit heaters have two gas settings (half and full, I think). I know this is a silly question, but is it possible to retrofit a unit heater so that you have a choice between half and full.

Again, it's probably a silly question.......

Working with black pipe was much easier than I thought. I didn't do much of the work, but I watched . . . and was surprised.

Anyway, thank in advance for the tips.

Need Input For Venting a Unit Heater

Have you checked the local building codes that are applicable to venting a furnace? I know that in california we cannot vent horizontally. We must extend the vent 18 inches above the roof. You don't want the carbon monoxide to seep into the house and kill someone due to improper venting.
