need info

Getting my A/C unit changed. What unit is good to buy but not too expensive to purchase. Can I purchase the unit myself an have someone install it? Does anyone know about a brand called "Goodman" I got a quotation with this brand but I dont know anything about this particular brand.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goodman is the worst name out there with regards to quality. They're always dead last when it comes to Consumer Reports. The best out there is Trane/American Standard. You can buy and install it yourself, but the problem is that your warranty may be voided if you don't have it installed professionally.

Thanks for the info man. Got a quote from an installer from Trane and I almost had an heart attack.

CR has zero credibility with their silly old HVAC ratings.

I'd gladly take a well installed Goodman over a poorly installed Trane.

the best bang for your bucks "Weather King" by Rheem, good, fair price and reliable units.

I moved into a new community and the builder's grade was Goodman which came with a standard 5 year warranty, parts only. I paid extra monies ($700) for a Trane Upgrade, but was allowed to only after I presented ample data to the builder that said Goodman was actually "not so" Goodman.

Trane comes with standard 1 year warranty. The HVAC installer told me it was a steal to have all 3 of my zones, upgraded to Trane for only $700. The biggest reason why Goodman has decent ratings is because of their 5 year warranty. The way their units are designed, the parts and subassemblies break down often, but since the cheap parts are covered, homeowners only pay labor. With Trane, they are built to last. Do a google search on these two brands. The choice is yours.

Thank you very much hennyh.I was actually considering trane but the pricing has me off balance. There was a $4000 difference.

I would think against any brand that uses the spine fin coil, here is a abused trane

I'm sure if you got the worse case scenarios out of all the manufacturers, they'd all be pretty ugly. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for. Buyer beware.

goodmans are fine i install plenty of them trane is just another of the big 4 makers no better than any other .
Rheem is i would say the best but ive had quality issues with weather king, Carier/ bryant seem to be cheaply made these days
trane is slowly losing ground since the placement with home depot and sears
goodman is very satisfactory and standard middle of the road price performance , and contractors choice for price performance comparisons. amana seems to be their upper range.
trane has been getting pushed around alot recently and i think mostly by agressive sales people, spouting consumer confusing terms and touting the same 10 year parts and labor warrenty that all 4 makers offer.
and by the way no consumer can purchase major hvac equipment without a buisness license contractors license or EPA/CFC certifcation
at least that i know of.

goodman is 10 years PARTS and LABOR

handy man88 04-11-2007 11:41 PM
