I have been getting quotes to get (2) Aprilaire 5000 EAC installed and (1) Honeywell Truesteam 12 gallon installed in my home.
House is 4650 sq ft, 2.5 yrs old
Carrier units: 1st floor = in basement, 2nd floor = in attic
Location in central NJ
The quotes seem pretty high, so far the first contractor quoted me about $1100 for each EAC and $1200 for the honeywell truesteam to be installed in the basement, total = $3400. Another contractor quoted me $3600, and $3500. they said it will be a 1 day job
I looked online and the EAC units go for $500 each delivered and the Truesteam = $500, that means they are charging about $1800-2000 for install. This seems way overpriced to me. Any thoughts or advice
The thing about paying someone to install something, is that you aren't just paying for the actual labor. Running a business has lots of costs- employee payroll, workers comp payments, insurance, vehicles, gas, phones, training, tools...the list goes on and on. This is why a lot of guys get out of residential, because it's a lot easier to hand a bill to another company for $100/hr than it is to hand it to a homeowner who just thinks "wtf? these workers only make $25/hr, why am I paying $100?" Sure there is profit involved, but it isn't much.
Your best bet to get a fair price is to shop around, but beware: you get what you pay for.
