Need Advice on Sealing HVAC Ducts

I really need some advice on sealing HVAC ducts. I'm having a contractor put in a whole house fan. He has to disconnect and move some HVAC ducts in order to do it. He said that he would use metallic tape to reconnect and seal the ducts (I'm assuming they're UL 181 tapes).

I asked if he would use any mastic sealant and he stated that it wouldn't be necessary. I'm a bit concerned since the ducts presently have what appears to be mastic sealant over the 181 tapes.

Your help and advice would be appreciated on how to ensure that duct connections are properly sealed?

Foil tape will adhere to a clean surface so well you will have to cut it to get it to let go. I don't see much need for mastic.

Can you advise on mastic tape? Is mastic tape typically better than foil tape?

Also, what about putting mastic tape on first then foil tape on top of mastic tape?

I like tape do to if I ever have to take it apart tape will come off easyer then mastic. Just use one or the other. to use both is just a waist of time and material (Overkill).

Thanks for all the good advice.

A follow up question for using foil tape. Is it advisable to double tape or just go around once?
