my furance wont stay on HELP!

my boyfriend and I are broke. for the time being we are using kerosene in our oil furance. I known its probly not good for it but we have 4 kids, and can't afford the 300 dollar oil bill. we can't seem to figure out what is wrong with it. I know nothing about furances, so if someone could point us in the right direction it would be great. the furnace wont turn on using the thermostate. we manually turn it on, but it only last a few minutes before the burner shuts off, and the blower turns on. we bled the lines to see if that would help but it hasn't. please help.

Hate to break the news to you but that furnace MUST use proper fuel oil. It may have some serious problems now and need a major overhaul. The nozzle, filter, pump etc may be plugged with crud and the chamber wet with bad fuel. This may start on fire and get out of control and cause a house fire. Find a warm place to stay (relative etc) and get a Pro to look the unit over and be prepared for some serious $$ expense. Sorry. Don't keep resetting it as that is VERY dangerous. Sorry

is there a way that we could replace the nozzle ourselves. That's what we thought was wrong with it. and how much money are we talking about. we were told that it was okay to use the kerosene if we ran out. Is it really that bad.

Ayuh,...

I doubt your choice of fuel has Anything to do with the problem,...
#1 fuel oil is a direct replacement for #2 fuel oil....

How Handy is your boyfriend,+ does he have any Tools,..??

The 1st thing to Check,+ Change is the fuel filter...
It'll be mounted somewhere between the fuel tank,+ the furnace,..Just follow the fuel line to find it...
Theres a bolt on top, 7/16" or 1/2" wrench, that'll release the filter housing,..
Change it, then, Rebleed it,+ Try it...

#1/Kerosene, is just a clean and slightly lower heat content oil

Sometimes it tends to clean the crude out of oil tanks.

Problem is, you may have created a dangerous situation.
If it has been spraying oil in the combustion chamber everytime you pressed the reset button.
When it does light off again. Your going to have a fire you won't be able to control.

Ask friends and family members if they can help you with teh repair bill.
Its better then having your children injured, or worse happen to them in a fire.

No way to know.

We don't know what is wrong, let alone what a company will charge for the parts or labor.
