moving warm air

I have a ranch with full basement - about 2400 square feet total - 1200 on main floor and 1200 in basement. I have a forced hot air system with adequate heat and return vents on main floor, but only heat vents in basement - no return vents. I use a free standing pellet stove in the basement that is rated for 2000 square feet, but I have trouble getting the heat up to the main floor. I have ceiling fan running in the stairwell and periodically run the furnace fan to circulate the air -- it's 85 in the basement and 62 upstairs. Any suggestions on improving circulation?
