Moving return and supply ducts in a basement

Hi, I am looking to finish my basement and have a problem with the current location of the HVAC supply and return ducts. They run directly down the center of the basement, perpendicular to the joists. Finishing around the duct work only allows about 6' of clearance. My thought to move the duct work is to 90 the supply and return out of the air handler and run them to an exterior wall. Then i would do another 90 running the return and supply in a sofit along the wall. Then to get them back to the center of the room and back to the duct work going up through the floor, I would like to 90 off the wall and run them in between the celling joists. Is this possible and/or hard to do? What kind of affect will this have on my unit and the air flow.

Thanks for any suggestions/help.
