Moving Air Return from Floor Soffit to Ceiling Soffit

Is is possible to moving air return from floor soffit directly underneath air handler to the ceiling soffit directly above it? The air handler is located in a BR closet with a raised floor and I would like to install bi-fold doors all the way across this closet opening and move the air return duct 8"x4" do directly above where it is now. They did have the whole unit "walled in" with only the filter side accessible. There was no way to get to the Humidifier the way it was; I took that part of the wall out and would like to do bi-folds so that the Unit is accessible.
Thanks!

If I read that right you only want to move a 4"x8" duct? GO for it

New to this

Thanks- it is an 8" x 4" duct located directly underneath the raised Unit. I was planning on covering the existing hole and running duct work vertically directly above where it is now and out through the ceiling soffit. Essentilly I am just moving it about 8 feet above where it is now. I wasn't sure if there was a reason it was under the Unit.

You could just patch that hole (in the furnace) then cut in a new one wherever!

Can I cover the floor soffit hole (where the grate/grill was) and cut a new one in the floor directly over it and run a vertical duct up into the ceiling soffit and put my grate there? The air handler is on a raised platform in the closet area and this was just a 4" x 8" hole with a grate on the side of this platform. It looks like there is no duct work in that lower platform area at all. It looks like the air was pulled into that platform that the air handler sits on through that 4 x 8 hole. This is my first project of this sort and I really want to make sure I do things right.

Thanks for your help!
