Moving air with furnace fan
I currently have a wood stove in my main living area and plan on adding a 2 floor addition along with a furnace. My concern is that the bottom level will be cold because the furnace will rarely come on when I have the stove burning. I know I can do a dual zone ducting and furnace control but am wondering if just running the fan on my furnace while the stove is running will distribute the warm air throughout the house. Currently it is always too warm in the living area and cold in the bedrooms so I am hoping when I get the furnace in the fan will help even out the heating.
The furnace will help if you have plenty of returns in the cool areas. That way, you will get more warm air into them.
If you are building a new furnace (80-95% eff.), you can get a variable speed fan the is much more efficient to run that a typical fan.
