Move Furnace to Attic

My home is in Los Angeles, CA. I was looking into putting in new ductwork and moving furnace into attic to increase airflow throughout house. The tech I had out went in attic and noticed that I have "prefabricated" support beams for the roof (series of triangles as supports). He stated that since these supports are prefabricated they are only meant to carry the weight of the roof and that we could not relocate the furnace to roof (issue with city code?). Is this correct?

Move Furnace to Attic

I thought you said you were moving the furnace to the attic not the roof?

Move Furnace to Attic

Call the city building and permit department and ask. I see furnaces in truss framed attics all the time here but this isn't LA

Most furnaces weigh about 100 lbs, evap coil another 25 or 30 lbs max and the duct work if its duct board (i am assuming that since its going in an attic you will be using insulated duct?) doesn't weigh much at all.I don't see that weight being a problem considering how far the weight will be spread out.
