mouse chewed through AC fan wire

I was cleaning my exterior AC unit this weekend and noticed that a mouse chewed the purple wire that goes to the fan in the AC unit. I figured I could just cut the wire two and splice it back together with a wire nut. That doesn't seem to be the case as the wire is only 18 gauge stranded but the insulation is really thick so I can't put a nut on there. My other issue is that the splice won't be in a box.

Any ideas on the best way to fix this? A new fan is over $200 so I'd rather not go that route.

Thanks.

Similar thing happened to my brother, his dog chewed through the wires....we fixed it with those crimp on wire connectors that have gel sealant built into the connector. Makes a nice, permanent, water proof repair. You can get them at your local big box home improvement store.

I use peanut butter and I set the trap with a hair trigger.

One trap on a shelf over my workbench disappeared.
A week later I'm on a job and when I open my toolbag, here is the trap with a dead, stiff mouse in it.

I have found that people who use poison instead of traps have this problem. For some reason they think they will get water by chewing the wires.

O but I got the mouse. I closed up the AC unit and went back in later that day. Sure enough the mouse was sitting there. I had an empty garbage can near by so I flipped him in there. My mouse problem is fixed... At least until the next one moves in.

I set traps in my workshop outside and they'd disappear occasionally too.... I took to adding a chain to them and screwed the chain to the walls....
Worked fine until MouseZilla moved in and broke the trap and chain right off the wall! I STILL can't find the trap/chain/mousezilla..... (chipmunk? raccoon? LOL)

I followed these instructions to make a western union splice. I then wrapped the splice with exterior rated electrical tape. Then wrapped that with some good electrical tape.

seconded. solder paste and a butane torch with some heat shrink tubing will make quick work of it.

Wrong type of splice.
Can become a loose splice from expansion and contraction in just a few years. And burn up your motor.

I did the WU splice and followed it up with solder. Hopefully that will stay together.
