Mini split in basement?

Gents, I am currently finishing my basement and it is about 1000 sq. ft. with a load bearing wall that has multiple openings in the center.

I need to get some HVAC down here, its pretty comfortable so far in the summer due to being underground, however it could use just a little boost of AC. I am sure that winter will be somewhat the same.

Do you guys thing that installing a mini split on one side of the basement would do the trick? The hard part is that the furnace is on the 1st floor and all of my vents and registers are located in the ceiling of the first floor. That makes me think that it might just be cheaper and more efficient to install the mini split in the basement running on its own thermostat versus just branching ductwork from the ceiling of the first floor all the way back into the basement (especially since I don't know anything about HVAC).

I have used the mini split systems during my time in the middle east and they seem to do ok over there, as long as there is one for every 350 square feet or so......bear in mind......thats in 115 degree heat, with the sun beating down on the building all day.

I am hoping that this will work, and does anyone have an idea if this will suffice for counting all of my basement as finished square footage?

Thanks!

Andy

Mini split in basement?

I think mini-splits and PTAC (all in one rather than split) units are a great solution. There are mini-split systems that have larger capacities, multiple air handers to provide for multiple rooms, etc. A google will provide several online providers that can give you specific advice for your situation.
