Mini Air Conditioner

I'm trying to find a cost effective way of cooling my computer. I have a very used high end server and based on my a power and cooling expert, the best way to take care of the server, is to blow cold conditioned air into the front of it.

The space that I have the computer is tight. I can get power and water to it.

Can anyone recommend a good smaller size AC unit? Thanks

I would reccomend a Mitsubishi mini split. Depending on the server size is how many tons you will need. Take the room size, times the BTU output of the server. If it is a household sized server, should be around 800 to 1000 Btu per hour. Look at your data sheet that came with it and it should tell you. 12,000 BTU is 1 ton of cooling capacity. Give me a break man, you suggested a $4000 A/c system to cool a single server.......The water cooler I linked to cost $154.00, my god rusty, a 2 year old with NO HVAC experence can figure that one out. If you call that "goading" then so be it............I see it more as common sense. Are you going to "threaten to tell mommy" every time I have a better and more proven way of doing something then you can come up with?

Instead of haveing a jealous rage every time I have a better idea then you do, how about learning from it.........

#CARRIERMAN and acefurnacefixer, thank you for both your suggestion. acefurnacefixer's suggestion of going to frozencpu.com is actually closer to what i'm looking at. However, visiting the site, I noticed that they focus on component cooling (unless I missed it otherwise).

My server is one of those used industrial strength HP servers that are racked.

so, essentially i'm looking for a unit that provides cooling as follows:

[Mini AC] >>>cool air>>> [server]

Do a google search for "portable room airconditioners" .Find one that you may be interested in, then post a link here and I will reveiw it for you and give you a professional opinion on it.

Determine your heat load. 100% of the computer's power results in heat at about 3.4 BTU/W. If the computer plugs in an ordinary wall outlet, a 4000 BTU unit will do, a 5000 BTU will provide extra margin.

The easiest option is to buy a small window unit and mount in in your 19" equipment rack and make a duct to direct the air.

Note:
1. The cheaper the A/C unit, the more noisy it will be.
2. All of the computer heat plus the "heat of compression" otherwise know as "super heat" will be added to your room.
3. You will need to modify the window unit with a condensate drain. These units direct the condensate to the condensor fan where it gets blown all over the place. You will also need a condensate pump.
