Question

Microwave with exhaust to vent down to basement and out

We have a microwave that we want to vent outside and the only way we can do it is run a duct to the basement and out.

The wall behind the stove has a 2x4 that they say is for fire safety. The 2 x8 floor is right in teh middle of the wall area. How can we run the duct to the basement inside the wall but we need to curve it or else it will hit the 2x8 floor support. We dont have enough room on the back of the stove to take the duct out the wall and into the floor.

This is how our downdraft stove-top vents. I hate it. It doesn't catch all the steam/smoke and grease congeals in the tube in the basement because my basement is colder than my kitchen.

Leah,

With what you have did that help with the smell of cooking not lingering all over the house? My very main issue is that we have a microwave and it just circulates the air and when I cook especially asian dishes the house would smell like the dish for a long time. Having it vent outside might help it...I am hoping that it will.

Is the vent on an exterior wall?

We are going to run a duct from the microwave exhaust down to the basement and go side to exhaust it outside. We have to cut a hole in the outside wall so it will vent out.

No, it's the wal between the kitchen and the dining room that is why we have to run a duct down to the basement and then to the outside wall.

OOOO this is tough. There is no way you could fit and oval pipe between the stove and the wall just down at the bottom?
