Merv filter rating?

Hello Guru's.

New Split system Central Air system last year. Trane Hyperion XL 2.5 ton with Variable speed motor. What MERV rating filter should I use or can I use with this system without restricting air flow? Should I just stick with 6 or 8?
Thanks,

~S

Merv filter rating?

as long as you or the installer does a temp rise check of the furnace and checks the freon level of the AC and pressures to make sure you are getting enough airflow you should easily be able to use a Merv 10 filter as that blower has tons of airflow and can handle up to a Merv 16 filter. The speed of it needs to be set with a higher Merv filter and should be properly done at install and with normal yearly maintenance. Merv 8 should be safe now but the airflow should be checked to make the equipment last longer and for efficiency etc.
