Loud furnace ignitor!

I'm hoping someone has some information on this...

I have a 1990s Armstrong Ultra 80 furnace, which works just fine, except the ignitor is very loud. And annoying. I noticed it usually generates a flame on the first spark, but then goes ahead and keeps sparking for another 5-10 times. For a total of three to four seconds of really loud sparking. Which doesn't sound so bad, unless you are trying to fall asleep, and the furnace is just outside the bedroom, in the hall.

Is that just the way it is supposed to be? Or is there something to be done about it?

Thanks!

Loud furnace ignitor!

It will spark until the pilot flame is detected by the module. You could clean the flame sensor and pilot assy with a wire brush. It may prove flame sooner-less spark.
