Looking for a wifi thermostat which also accepts remote sensors

Hi everyone. As the title says, I'm looking for a wifi thermostat which also accepts remote sensors.

I want to lock up my thermostat in a closet where no one can mess with it. Sure I could just put a plastic lock box over it, but that's ugly and I would miss out on the cool iPad / iPhone app.

I've seen some of the Honeywell wifi stats. They look nice but it looks like those particular models dont support remote sensors. That's just dumb, in my opinion, since its likely the same hardware, and the thing is perfectly capable of it, they just deleted that part of the firmware. But nothing I can do about their evil marketing schemes.

I've also seen some of their non-wifi stats which do accept remote sensors, and which can be controlled by computer apps by adding the RedLink internet gateway. That is a complete solution which would do everything I want. But to me it sounds overly complicated and costly. I don't need to control my stat from Bangkok, just from my bedroom with my iPhone.

The ability to accept remote sensors is NOT well documented in Honeywell's product selection guides and feature comparisons. For any given model, you basically have to download the installation guide pdf and pick through it to figure out. For this reason I could be wrong about which ones do and dont. I reckon its quicker to ask this community, who probably knows.

Maybe I should look at other vendors? Anyone know of some? I like to stick with high quality, proven stuff if possible.

Thanks all.

At other approaches to the issue altogether.

How many of these "no ones" are there?

Don't know of any thermostats that would accept a remote AND ignore the one built into them. So by locking it in a closet you'd be getting stuck with the reading from there.

I've not looked inside modern thermostats but I'd have to think the temperature sensing thermisitor or other element has got to be able to be desoldered without a lot of hassle. Then just tap into those connections with a pigtail and a connector. Run lines to the desired location or get a remote thermostat module that would work. I had some on my old Proliphix thermostat. Placement of a thermostat's sensor is important, more important than just aesthetics. Put it in the wrong place and your system won't be able to function as designed.

But it really does beg the question of how are things setup and being abused such that you feel the need to keep them from being 'messed with'?

How about one that simply locks the screen so no one can mess with it without the password? http://wifithermostat.com/Products/WiFiSmartThermostat/ or http://wifithermostat.com/Products/W...eenThermostat/

For one that accepts remote inputs I would use TH8320WF

But does it allow ignoring the built-in sensor?

Honeywell T87 is a thermostat that was first manufactured by Honeywell International, Inc. in 1953. Pictures HERE

The more I read of these "improvements" the more appealing the old T87 becomes.

I'm pretty sure it only uses the remote sensor and disables the internal. That how all the standard 8000 series thermostats worked. Honestly for ease of setup I recommend going the redlink route with the new 8000 or the prestige. But for the money I would just get a standard wifi with a lockable screen.
