Question

looking for thermostat ideas

Looking for ideas for thermostats.

My church has 9 different thermostats in 9 different locations. They range from the old school dial type to very simple non programmable digital things.

What we would like (cost is a factor) is a central programmable system. The dream system would be tied into our private network so we can log in and adjust as necessary. What has happened and continues to happen is people adjust the thermostat in their areas for comfort during events and activities but they never get reset for energy and cost savings. I have been tasked with finding options.

I think the simplest and possibly the cheapest is replace all of them with the same kind of 7 day programmable jobs that will reset at pre programmed times. What I mean, my home thermostat I can adjust but as long as I do not push the "hold" button, at the next programmed time it continues on its schedule.

Thanks for any ideas.

Respectfully,
Fred

Well the link is nice and all but I still don't know what I am looking for. What are some common terms and consideration.

I might be having problems grasping this because I am a GoldWing rider.

Thanks for the advice.

well, i think what you want (from reading your first post) is remote temperature sensors, and centralized thermostats, and you would like all that integrated into a PC program for off- premises control.....is that what you want?

P.S. as long as you're not on a crotch rocket, you are O.K. in my book.....

Hey Fred (not sure where Norton would fit in here but...

Hmmm... remote monitering and control or not.
If cost is truly a factor, the other system possibilities will have to be measured up against your brilliantly simple $350.00 solution.

Honeywell Th6000 series and above all do what you want. As far as will reset to programmed temps at X set program time, after someone has raised or lowered the temp. And no remote is needed. plus, you can DIY easily.

A central control system will cost a lot more money, but can be monitored from the office, or even someone's house. And if they know an event is scheduled for X day at X time. they can double check that the area heated up or cooled down before the event begins. But you generally nee a control company to install the system.

Unless I missunderstood what Fred wanted, he complained that different groups of people who turned up the temp and then forgot to return the temp to where it had been, but he still wanted those people to be able to adjust the temp for comfort.
My experience with big churches is that different groups of people use different areas at different times but that gets balanced against a building that is not lived in and is generally kept at a low temp for fuel savings.
I'm not sure how the closet solution would provide for the wide range of ever changing temp requirements over his solution.

Our last office we were in had 28 thermostats! When they built the place I urged my parents to spend the extra money on something that could have been tied in with a computer system and all controlled from my desk but they wouldnt go for it.
