Lenox G8 series blower dead...almost

Hi there,
My Lenox G8 series unit - 1991 - blower made today some harsh, rattling noises and some burned smoke went out. After that, it stoped dead. I was able to restart the furnace a couple of hours later, and now it runs OK. I feel it's not gona be for long untill it runs cold again.
Any clues, tips? Makes sense to replace the blower only or should I get a brand new furnace? This is only 16 years old.

What furnace brands should I look at if replacing, this is for a 2000 sq feet ranch.

The blower motor might need to be oiled, but it could be ruined if it burned up. I would replace only the motor if it breaks as long as the rest of the furnace is in good shape.
