lennox g20 series whisper cracked heat exchanger

had 10 year old furnace inspected today, minor crack in lower chamber. called lennox to send me replacement part, under warrentee, cannot afford $900 +/- cost to hire someone. they will not send it because I am not one of their "dealers". It's my furnace and warrentee, why won't they send me the part? it is getting real cold here in NE OH.

Good for Lennox. No one will give a part to anyone unless they are a dealer/distributor. Fom there a contractor puts it in. Safety first.

Sorry about the high cost. Maybe you should shop around different contractors and talk to them about the situation.

900 is a lot. We charge 450.00 . Ps by pass damper door. That's what cracked it in the first place

Not only safety but as was the case with Goodman, it wasn't that their equipment was bad but until not too long ago ANYONE could get there hands on pretty much anything and consequently Goodman got a bad rap due to home owners and hacks acting the part of professional hvac technicians and messing systems up within a year or two that could've and should've lasted 10-15.

The Goodman name went downhill quickly. Now they're making a serious comeback but no other equipment manufacturer is going to let that happen to their company.

My two cents.

Heck for 90% replacement of warranty heat exchanger, paperwork and shipping fees. We charge 650.00 for all.

That is not what cracked it. Plenty of lennox furnaces were made with out the damper and have the same design heat exchanger and they still all cracked in the same place.

The reason the part goes through a dealer is it's purchased on credit, then shipped, then installed, then warranty paper work filed. They might or might not want the part shipped back for inspection so it has to be stored until the credit comes for the original purchase(which can take several weeks).
You wouldn't want to pay for all that up front then have the claim denied because it wasn't maintained.

Ditto on the call other dealers for a better price. Takes me 2.5 hours to change a heat exchanger in a G20 including drive time. Not drive time to Ohio though!

I'm in Houston, the hvac capitol of the world. My company, 30 years in the biz, charges $200-$400 to clean a slab coil. That takes a very slow and played out 30 minutes, 45 at best. If we have to pull an upflow from its cabinet it can go $600+, two hours.

Heat exchangers run $700-$900 easy.

I think that geographical location plays a big part in pricing. Your biggest commercial company is about as big as our smallest. Our two van commercial companies work the entire US. Our residential companies do as well.

I can put in an 80% furnace for $1800 and have but that's a rarity to go that low.
