lennox g20 combustion door

lennox g20q3 whisper heat has a combustion door that opens and makes a switch to supply power to all safeties before igniting.the door will not open due to motor went out. i have it proped open now till i can get a motor on monday.i want to know why i need this door it appears only to keep air flow stopped to the combustion chamber when furnace is off.it looks like to me this causes condensation on heat exchanger and corrosion.should i just remove this door and jump out switch. thanks craig

I always by pass the door instead of replace motor. You see to wires that goes to that small arm switch by leftside of damper. That both wires off and cut off the terminals spades and strip back wire then wire nut them together. Make sure power is off so you don't blow 24volt transformer

I've had lennox folks say that removing that door costs you in efficiency through allowing heated home air to flow through the exchanger endlessly up the chimney. Of course that view from sellers of lennox parts is a bit self serving and has not prevented me from doing the same as Tator. I've also run across repairs that are even lazier as in a tin can propping open the door.

although I would never tell a client to modify a furnace from what the factoy design is......I agree with tator and how.

Ihave to agree with dosy777 I don't think you should disconnect the door on the furnace that is not the intended purpose of this unit...ok maybe for temp heat buy get new motor for door and reinstall...ben

I don't remember the lennox before model but its the same design and no damper door. Plus the way he is going the furnace is going to be replace very soon. He is better off get by this way for the next couple years.
