Lennox Furnace code: E558

Lennox G71MPP dual fuel (heat pump and propane) furnace, downdraft installation flashes E558 when starting, then quits. What does the code mean? Note: I've inverted the characters to compensate for the downdraft installation.

Don't have a legend that list that error code.

multiposition furnace. when installed as downflow/counterflow the board and legend is upside down. looks like a E228 and that will be on the error code legend on the back of one of the doors.

Right that is what I intended. I saw 3228, pause and repeat. I then "inverted" to E558. At start up I saw 3 letters, when inverted looked like CAL (calibration?). This led me to inverting the code that I reported.

Thanks. I had looked in the owner's manual and the wrong door.

However, (beside a few 1 character codes) all are 3 digits and the largest is 312. This causes me to re-think the "invert" strategy.

Code 228 (from back of door): "Unable to perform successful pressure switch calibration routine".

It doesn't feel right to not "invert" or is it "rotate"? Also, dropping a character/digit seemed OK if I read it as an E, but a 3?

Suppose I drop the E/3 and read 228 as the message above, what is broken and what is the fix?

all the error codes on that unit read Exxx and most of them are E2xx. It can be mounted sideways, vertical or upside down so you need to read them upside down. CAL is calibration ad the first thing that happens is that the circuit board ramps up the inducer to full and minimum and checks when the switches trip etc etc. It is a VERY complicated process and not something I can teach over the net. Check your intake and exhaust pipes for obstructions. After that you need a VERY experienced Lennox tech to check it. The pressure switches can be faulty, drainage issues , furnace not sloped properly etc etc. It should have a 10 yr warranty on parts but the labor is your cost unless you have an extended warranty.
