Leak search with Dye

Am looking for advice on whether the pros use dye and blacklight and which brand and how well does it work. Stuff is REAL expensive.

I have a kit I bought.. Comes with install tool ,dye, light, glasses for 92.99. If you have a leak on an A coil on the back side you mast likely have to pull the coil to locate it. There is also another kit that is offered with out glasses & light for 55.00

Can you find leaks outside on a condensor coil in the daylight or do you have to cover it with a tarp? Does the dye show up quickly ie: 1/2 hr or do you have to come back the next day. (I know depends on size of leak).

Leak search with Dye

Not always easy ougtside to see it.
Covering with a tarp helps.

Had more then one, that I couldn't find with the dye.

Electronic leak detector found it instead.

Repaired a coupke leaks, on systems that I added dye too. When I took the copper apart, I couldn't see any traces of the dye inside the copper.

It needs to circuate with the oil. If there isn't much oil suspended with the gas, the dye doesn't work.

Yeh dye can take a day or two, sometimes almost right away.
