In-laws A/C woes

Hello Everyone.

I'm sure this HVAC forum is as hot as the weather is with tons of questions so here's another one!

My in-laws A/C won't turn on as per my father in-law. The thermo is commanding cool with the furnace blower running however nothing happening at the condensing unit. It's an old Carrier heat-pump type. I've attached a photo from the internet. Their unit is similar. Just wondering if there's anything I could look at which might be the culprit.

p.s. the circuit breaker is ON.

Funny all the a/c units troubles are coming from up north. I would push in contactor manualy.

Thanks for the reply!

Ummmm, care to give a bit more info? Where would said contactor live?

I would not push in the contactor manually......you need a meter to check for power.....

They aren't on some kind of power company interrupt program are they?

Things it could be: No main power at the outdoor unit itself. No low voltage control power getting to the unit. Lost it's refrigerant charge and a low pressure safety switch has it shut off.

If you're helping from a distance I would suggest they call a service person as checking any of the above potentially involves high voltages and the potential for serious injury.
