Kitchen reno hvac dilema

Hoping someone can give us some insight on heat registers in front of a built in dishwasher. We are in the process of a kitchen reno and have hit snags (of course). The latest being our architect plans call for the built in dishwasher sitting directly overtop of the heat register. Because of a way too restricted space in the basement, we cannot move the duct and were wondering if you could install a flush mount floor register infront of the dishwasher? We could swap out the dishwasher with a bank of drawers, however, we would have to decrease the size of the register by about 2 inches. Would that be an option? To swap out the d/w with bank of drawers, the d/w would overhang the register so we would have to customize it if that were possible. Thanks for your help.

Which ever way that has the least effect on the register.
