Just got a bid for trane condensor installation

I am in southern California and just got a bid to install my condensor unit. I have a furnace and coil already installed in the attic. I wanted the contractor to bring the line set down an open cavity where an exhaust flue used to be located for the old floor furnace. This cavity makes it easy to get the line set from the attic into the crawlspace and out the back of the house. My main concern is the contractor does not want to silver solder the connections because of the difficulty of getting a torch under the house. He wants to use some sort of red bonding agent that he said holds up to 3000 psi. What do you guys think about this? His quote to run the line set, install the condenser and hook up the electrical was $3100 which includes an entry level 13 seer single stage trane condenser.

I would insist on silver solder or sil phos brazing rod vs. red "silly putty".

Tell him to follow the manufacturers installation manual.

Needs to be brazed/or silver soldered.

Is the indoor coil also a Trane?

The indoor unit is a trane 3 tone cased coil attached to an xr90 furnace. I actually installed those components myself last year. Beenthere, you actually helped me on some of my questions. I may just do this myself but I just don't have a lot of extra time. I just need to find a place where I can buy trane equipment. None of the dealers around here will sell to a home owner.

As dealers. We are not retailers. In my state, and many other state, as dealers don't have a tax license to sell retail/over the counter. We can only sell by contract. Which requires us to install it then.

But the guy you have for this work. Well, I think I'd be looking of someone else, even for the vacuum and charging.
