It's Cold and I don't know how to turn on my furnance :(
I have a weil-mclain standing pilot water boiler heat with a Honeywell thermostat. I can't figure out how to turn the thing on.
There is a green light that is on all the time. I tried to turn the thermostat to the max heat 90 degrees, nothing happens. I followed the user manual to light up the pilot by turning to the gas control knob to off, wait for 5 minutes then turn on again but the pilot light is not lit. I'm scared to light the pilot using a match as I may blow up something. I have attached a few photos. Please help. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

That does not look like a standing pilot to me. This unit should be igniting the pilot electronically with every call for heat. Do you know if your thermostat is working? Do you have a water temp limit control or a vent limit that has tripped off?
It may also have shut down because it could not verify the pilot flame. Turn off the power to the boiler and clean with a dry scotch brite that thin round rod sticking straight up just beyond the cobrahood of the pilot assy. Then turn the power back on to see if it will fire up. A more clear image of photo three might give us some clues. Last edited by how; 09-24-2012 at 11:25 PM. |

OK, that's a pretty simple thermostat and not likely to be the problem.
Try turning off the boiler 120V power for a couple of minutes. Use your designated circuit breaker if you can't find the boiler's on/off electrical switch. That little light on the boiler panel will go off. Turn the power back on and watch the pilot assy and describe what happens. |

Thanks again How. I turned off the furnace. The green light turned off, waited 2,3 minutes, turned it back on, the green light turned on, nothing else happened, the pilot did not do anything or make any sound.
![]() I also tried turn the gas control knob to off, waited 5 minutes, turned it on again while the furnace was off. That didn't help. what else should I do? I have more photos it's the CGA ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Check stat wires and breakers to all units

On your original set of photo's (the last one with the red pump assy), there is a vent limit safety switch attached to the boiler chimney vent. It has two wires connected to it. Between them should be a little reset button.
Try pushing that reset button. The photo I'd like to see is a clear one of the writing on the electronic board that was on picture 3 of your original set of photos to see if it mentions another specific reset for an ignition failure. |

That module should flash an error code if a safety opens. Could be a bad stat, or the module itself.Almost need a meter to see if its getting a call for heat.

that red B & G circ pump should start with a stat call right off the bat... toggle switch is UP/ON
....the sequence is stat calls, circ runs, water cycles thru baseboard, silver limit with 2 wires and temp dial picks up water temp drop and the boiler sparks for pilot(like on your stove top sound)..for 30 secs(till sensing rod) picks up heat from pilot light...and then OKs main gas and burner lites. |
