Intermitant Start-Up of Furnace

Can someone give me an idea of where to start troubleshooting a start-up problem that does not regularly seem to occur? I have a gas fired furnace with electric ignition ... Sometimes when the thermo sends it signal (I hear the click), the pilot then clicks several times but the furnace does not fire up ... This does not happen all the time?

Any guidance would be appreciated

Post the make and model and serial # of the furnace.
