Insulating HVAC junction in unconditioned attic

In my unconditioned attic space I have a large, probably 2'x2' metal box that has a 9" duct coming in and four 6" ducts coming out into 4 upstairs rooms. The ducting is insulated but this box is not. I cant imagine that a metal box in a 100+ degree attic is very effecient in the summer when trying to run the A/C. Is there a product made to insulate these items or is this something I need to "rig" Thanks a bunch!

Are you certain it's not insulated on the inside? The majority of metal duct is made with internal insulation.

Regardless of that fact, yes, you can buy duct wrap. It's basically fiberglass insulation with a reinforced metallic covering. It's usually silver in color but it is also sometimes white. It is attached using brand specific tape that is about 3" wide, or you can buy aluminum tape in 2" or 3" widths at a big box store for about $7.00 a roll.

No, Im not positive. Like I said, the ducting IS insulated on the outside. Its flexible coil ducting wrapped in insulation. I have not looked inside this distribution box but when I tap on it, it does not sound like it is insulated. Ilil have to look closer I guess before I seal up the roof. Thanks a bunch!

If when the A/C runs, its not sweating. Its insulated on the inside.
