installing a vent in the door to my hvac room

I'm replacing a louvered door in an apartment. Behind the door is a gas furnace and water heater. The apartment is 800sq feet. My question is can i install a regular interior door and cut a 14"x14" hole and place a vented grill over the hole?

Need two holes in the door. One wthin 12" of he floor and one within 12" of the ceiling. 14x14 should be plenty for each. IMO a louvered door looks better but the grills serve the same function.
