Installing Hardwood Floor Registers Don't Fit

Hi, I'm installing a new 3/4 tongue and groove hardwood floor. The height of the hardwood floor prevents the existing baseboard register grills from fitting into the duct cutout. The register grills are the 12x 6 size. I was wanting the registers to sit on the finished floor but that makes them too high to fit into the wall cutout. I did not want to have to fit the floor around the register therby "trapping" the register with the flooring. I didn't know whether to post this in hvac or flooring. Any ideas?
Thanks

Post a picture. I've never seen wall registers that close to the floor.

There are several types of wall registers--post the picture of what you have and the opening---

Some times the existing base molding needs to be trimmed a bit----but ,with a multi-tool, that job is not hard to do.

He has baseboard registers. They are as common as rain.If he pushes the boot up from the basement they will go higher than the baseboard.I think what he has to do is push them up and put a moulding around the top of them.
