Installing furnace in attic

I want to install a forced air heating system in a 1000 sq. ft. attic. I need to know whether I should install the vents in the attic floor or coming down the side walls? What are the advantages of doing it either way? Do you have a recommendation for furnace type and BTUs? Can you recommend a retail outlet in northern NJ? Thanks a lot.
