induced draft on same flue as natural draft

Hi
I read somewhere that you have to be careful if you have say an induced draft fan furnace on the same flue as a natural draft appliance such as a hot water heater. It said that fumes could be forced out of the draft hood. Will this even happen if you are venting the smaller appliance such as the hot water heater above the draft induced furnace?
Thanks
Skippy

Yes.
If the chimney becomes restricted, the furnace will vent out the water heaters dilution hood.

Good chance it already does, when the chimney is cold. Until the furnace warms it up a bit.
