When I bought my house (2 years) they installed the new furnace in the attic, instead of the crawlspace where the old one is.
The 5" round plastic air registers are in the ceiling with one in each room for a total of eight. They only have 1 way of adjusting them (1 round piece - in and out, solid flat bottom).
The ducts in the attic are flexible insulated plastic, and the ducts going through the ceiling to the register are metal....all 5". There is no 'trunk' line.....the ducts get divided up at the furnace end.
I would like the registers changed to metal, with more of an adjustment and hope to increase are flow.....seeing as some rooms are cooler than others.
I've only found the metal regiters in 6" and 8" and they are to be used with a 'butterfly' type damper.
Is it possible to replace my 5" with a 6" or 8" register without compromising air flow if a reducer/enlarger is used at the ceiling?
Is it possible to add a reducer/enlarger at the furnace end and increase ducts to 6" or 8" inch without compromisng air flow?
Any ideas are welcome and appreciated!
My house is a small (750 sq. ft.) older single story cottage style.
