Improper Insulation Installation??? Help!!
I have a dilemma and I canít find the answer online. I have a 1940ís cape in Massachusetts. The upstairs of the house is typical of a cape. The Living space down the middle of the house and crawl space on the front and back of the house. The upstairs gets incredibly hot in the summer. Iím not sure how to remedy this problem. The house has a ridge vent and thatís all. However the living space is completely covered in fiberglass insulation. The knee wall is insulated and the ceiling is insulated. From what I can tell this insulation is blocking any airflow to the ridge vent. Is this correct? If not how do I keep the heat / AC in the house and let the crawlspace ventilate properly? I donít know if this makes a difference, but there is no insulation under the floorboards in the anywhere upstairs. I have only been in this house for 2 years and this work was done within the past 7 years. Iím desperate to make it correct before it starts causing real damage.

Do you have soffit vents?

Is there any form of an attic?
