I need an expert

Specs
2.5 ton 10 seer ac condensor tested runnning perfect tested last week
ranch basement cooled by in window unit
1st floor 1200 sq feet
16 x 25 x 1 filter by air handler/ gas heater
btw temp in approx 75-78 temp back out approx 50-55

return is a 18 x 6 duct that goes under my hall closet into my livingroom and pulls air from my hallway and livingroom. In the middle of this duct is where it is connected to the return with a 18 x 5 opening. Originally when I bought the house there was also a 12 x 12 hole cut into return in basement and there were supply ducts cut into my 1st floor supply ducts. I closed all opeinings in basement as they were done after the system wasinstalled and should never have been cut in the was they were. Now since this is forced hot air and ac I want to connect a return higher to pull hot air out since all the rooms are vaulted. Any suggestions?

I plan on running two ducts off of this return location one for the hallway and one for the living room. What size ducts should I run (2) 6" , (2) 8" or (2) 10"?

First. Your 18X6 return duct is too small for a 2.5 ton unit.
So until you fix that, your not going to get extra air by adding those high returns.

what size should it be all I have to do is make the hole bigger i guess. The 18 x 5 hole leads to two 18 x 6 returns on opposite sides of the wall.

so the hole going into the floor and into the ductwork should be 22 x 8 should the two vents also be 22 x 8 as they are 16 x 8 now
