HVAC fan

why do i hear more noise out of my blower motor when in heat mode then i do in cool, its an all in one gas heat unit mounted on the roof. I hear the noise from the air return line not the out put vents

redman88 12-02-2012 10:43 PM

No help out there?

Does it use a different speed for heat then it does for cooling.

redman88 12-03-2012 08:56 AM

not sure, but it does feel like it is slower on heat

May be the mechanical noise of the blower running at a lower speed. Some blower motors labor more at a lower speed then they do at a higher speed.

whats the best option for fixing it?

beenthere 12-03-2012 09:12 AM

Remove the lower speed tap wire from the heating speed tap on teh board, and run a jumper from the cooling board tap to the heating board tap.

I would also check bearing play in the motor.

no worries about over powering the burners?

beenthere 12-03-2012 09:39 AM

The burners don't use the same air as the house does. the burners would be using a draft inducer, which is not the same as teh blower that moves air in your house.

so is it bad for the motor to be run the way it currently is or should i bypass the low speed?

Shouldn't hurt it.
