HVAC duct work is driving my family insane!

We moved into a home last month and have found it makes some very crazy noises. There are so many pops, clanks and bangs going on when the heat runs that you really couldn't tell the difference between the ducts popping and someone kicking in your doors. It not keep my wife and I up all night long, but wakes my kids and baby up also. I have a feeling the majority of the popping is coming from the accessable duct work below us and not actually the parts going "up" the walls. Is there anything I can do to try and silence all this crazy noise? I wasn't sure what options I had if any!

Also I noticed whenever we run hot water the drains POP every 10 seconds or so inside the walls. Its a constant SNAP SNAP SNAP, that goes on for 10-15 minutes after the shower is turned off. I am guessing this is the PVC expanding and rubbing on the hole that was cut to small and the only thing there is to cut out the wall completely?

Size of ducts.
Size of furnace(brand, and model number would help).
Temp of air coming out of your registers close to the furnace.

do you get the same noises when the AC is running in the summer?you should be on LOW fan during the heating cycle...with a gas furnace.how are those supply registers are they blasting the air out?

He may not have used the A/C in january when he moved in to know if it makes the same noise.

My guess is duct system problems.
Have the static pressure tested.
If you can get your hands on a manometer here are some guidelines.

I will take down the brand, size etc tonight and post the information up. I have not had a chance to run the A/C yet.

So you guys seem to think its a pressure issue, causing the ducts to expand more so then just the heat alone?

Same problem , all the plastic tabs that were holding the pipe were broken in the house we purchased 2 months ago and some had nothing holding them. I used the plastic brakets and its alot quieter.Especially one pipe that went through a drywall between a heated and unheated space.

The best way to handle this is metal hangers or brackets [i got mine in lowes] to hold the pipe in position before and after the drywall.In places i could not brace them i used the foam pipe insulation to tone down the noise and ususally the insulation braced it against the frame holding it.

The hot water is creating a vibration when metal expands due to temp change.This vibration is creating harmonic that are travelling down the pipe banging around in the drywall or on joists. just use a bracket every few feet and this will be resolved.Also, use expanding foam in the holes these pipe enter rooms it insulates and holds the pipe in position at the same time.
