HVAC Condenser FAN Motor hum and won;t start

I am afraid of reversing wire at Cap to avoid damage to Motor. I will wait for Carmon to verify at shop then will attempt.

I was thinking to reverse fan blade as a last resort.

You would have to get a different fan blade, can't just put the fan blade on upside down.

that is totally true. We were in hvac class and one of our senior student was explaining that to us. He experienced it on motor change out also. loll

Also you know Beenthere has almost close to 14,000 post , right? I think he damn sure knows what he is talking about! loll

I was able to make one out of three motors reverse...amperage was the same with no load on it in both directions.... the other two ran only one way....all three motors although different manufactures were 3 wire psc motors... now I am really confused... Been could have 2 million posts... what does number of posts mean.... I will however say from reading lots of his posts he knows his stuff... try what he said it may work...

Never had a 3 wire PSC I couldn't change rotation on.

I just had 2 not change.... I dont get it... I have never even tried before as all non oem motors we buy here are reversable by switching external plug....they are not three wire.. they have 2 seperate wires for cap ... I am not sure whats happening.... I do however hope your suggestion works...

The motors you are talking about. The rotation change leads, do exactly what I said to do, on a 3 wire motor. they switch which winding gets the phase change. Its just that you doing it with external leads that only connect to themselves.
Remember, the brown with white stripe capacitor lead, connects to the same spot as the common lead.

I understand what your saying... I am going crazy trying to figure out why 2 brands didnt reverse... I even tried it a second time just for fun... the same result only one changed direction..... internet here I come...lol

I just reversed as "beenthere" advised and it is working in right direction now.
This was big help, very much appreciated.

I wonder why Motor manufacturer sell Single Phase 3 wire PSC motors having CWISE and CCWISE direction. They could simply advise 2 wiring for different direction as recommended by "beenthere".

They sell more motors by not putting on a wiring diagram of how to reverse rotation on those motors.

I tend to agree with you on this logic.

Another interesting fact - Companies like Johnstone and C C Dickson don't even sell motor to me unless I am certified electrician. Only Grianger was ready to sell parts to me. I can understand not selling Freon gas but not selling capacitor or motor was odd
