My friends you will be happy to know that the situation has been resolved. I had a professional come and check it out. The pan under the system in the attic was full of water, shutting down the system with a float switch. The reason for the full pan was the original installer did not put a plug in one of the outlets that was a little higher up than the one they used for a drain. That allowed the built up water to flow a little at a time to the second pan where it sat. As soon as enough water built up in the pan with the safety float switch, it turned off the airconditioning. Drained off the water and put in a plug into the drain that wasn't
being used. Also put in a trap into drain. Works fine now. The Hvac professional said that water in the base pan probably has been building up for years due to overflo. Thank-you for all your suggestions, and won't hesitate to recommend this site to anyone.
