humidifier trouble water runs constant

I have an older carrier humidifier.
water keeps runing/valve does not close after furnace shuts off.

Humidistat mounted to return air vent at furnace.

If I decrease setting say from 30% down to 25% it will shut off.

Is this correct? If it is what can I do to change it, dont want water just
running through.

It sounds like the humid is wired direct to a voltage source instead of being properly tied into furnace to shut off when the furnace stops.

You can shut it off for the summer months by turning the humidistat to off.

Just slow, not stupid.
