Is Humidifier neccessary for a brand new house
Hi
I have just purchased a brand new house form the builder. The square footage is 3700 sq feet. The house has hardwood floors through out. My question is that do I really need a humidifier yet? The builder tells me that it is very important as it is a must for a house with hardwood floors but my local contractor says that a brand new house takes about 3 years to dry out so I am good for next 2-3 years and do not really need a humidifier yet. Also he days the A/C will play the role of a de-humidifier and I do not have to worry about buying a de-humidifier either... Can you please advise? |

Where do you live. In most homes you do not need one for 1 yr not 3 yrs unless you live in a dry climate.

Like Yuri said, depends where you live. If you live in the dryer climes then you need one sooner if the house falls below the recommended humidity level to maintain wood floors and the like.
As i recall 40% RH is recommended.

I would have to strongly disagree with that, you should be running a dehumidifier in the basement in the summer time

I peaked. He's from Ontario, Toronto I believe. Too warm of an area for you Yuri. swander, lets say your HVAC contractor is right. So what does he want you to do. Wait 3 years and then pay him to install a humidifier when the price is higher? And maybe even also pay a higher price for a whole house dehumidifier? What if he wrong. Is he going to pay to repair your hard wood floors if they are damaged? The real question shouldn't be do you need then now. But will you need them down the road. And do you want to be pro active, or wait until your floors tell you that you waited too long. |
