I'm looking at replacing an old drum-type whole-house humidifier with a new fan-powered humidifier (Honeywell HE300). However, we recently had a heat pump and coil installed in our furnace, and I'm not sure if it can be installed properly. The attached picture shows the situation. The opening is from the old humidifier, and that is really the only feasible spot to put the new unit. There is also limited clearance above the coil. My main concern is that the airflow from the humidifier will be blowing directly on the coil. I could be convinced to go with a bypass unit, which might fit in the space between the supply and return ducts, but I was hoping to get away from the bypass style. Steam could be OK too, but I ws hoping to avoid the high electricity costs. Any thoughts are appreciated.
