humidifier help please

have a honeywell he200 ( I think ) whole house bypass humidifier. worked fine last yr, not getting enough humidity now tho.
damper is in open position, water open, humidistat clicks when I tested it on and off. have it set at 50 right now but still dry in house
while furnace was running I removed cover of humidifier and water was only one small drop at a time- normal, or is the water line possibly clogged?
thanks

Hard to tell from your description if it's getting adequate water flow but these things do not flow a lot of water.... just enough to keep the pad moist. Have you changed the media pad? Old crusty ones don't work well. Also, since it probably isn't that cold out the furnace (and thus humidifier) just aren't running that much yet.

thanks, the pad is barely moist so it seems like its not getting enough water to it.

I had the same problem with my humidifier, It worked great the first year and the next year the flow was a lot less and then this year it stopped altogether. I live in an area with hard water and have a water softener so I believe this to be the root of my problem.

I fixed the problem by taking off the Solenoid Valve. It is the brass piece that has the water running into it and running out of it. It has an electromagnet attached to it that you have to remove as well so all you are left with is the brass piece. Then take it and soak it in vinegar (I used apple cider vinegar) over night and then put it back together and it should hopefully work. Its better than buying another one.

vinegar may not be strong enough, CLR may be needed in some cases.
