Humidifier and dehumidifier on furnace
 

We were recently given a new furnace and central air as part of a sound abatement program. There is a General Aire humidifier attached with a control that is low, med, and high. There is also a dehumidifier attached on the other side of the furnace. It plugs into the furnace and has a copper tube that runs and empty's into my wash tub.

Are both the humidifier and dehumidifer suppose to be running at the same time or should we unplug the dehumidifier?

This is all new to us since we previously had a 50 year old furnace with none of the bells and whistles. The city is a little slow gettin us out the manuals for this. Any help would be appreciated.

generally you want to humidify in the winter heating mode and dehumid in summer a/c is dehumid hooked into duct system or just for basement area?

The humidifier is hooked right into the duct work mounted on the side of the furnace with the water supply piggy backed from my hot water heater. The dehumidifier is also hooked up to the other side of the furnace with a series of PVC pipe going into the furnace. The dehumidifier also plugs into the ac box mounted on the furnace. I unplugged the dehumidifier earlier and there was quickly a pool of water under it. It just seems as if having the dehumidifier running at the same time defeats the whole purpose of the humidifier.
